Bus Transportation

HCS Early College High School students ride the elementary buses in the morning and may change buses.  In the afternoons, the students ride the ECH bus to the base high schools and ride the regular route from the base high school to their homes.  Parents may contact the bus office in their attendance area for specific information for their ECH student.

Information about bus routes is available at the time of registration or at any time upon request. HCS operates more than 300 buses each day, most of which complete double routes for morning and afternoon runs. Buses are purchased and allocated by the State based upon rider occupancy. A handful of buses are owned by the District and serve as activity buses and run special routes to get students from all over the county to programs at centralized locations.

Responsible student behavior is extremely important on the bus so that bus drivers are able to maintain focus on highway safety. Video surveillance is used on buses to monitor student behavior and may be used as evidence during disciplinary proceedings.  Bus transportation is a privilege that can be suspended if a student's behavior creates an unsafe condition on the bus. To help us operate our bus fleet in an efficient manner, here are a few things you should know:

  • Students who live within one and one-half miles of their school may be provided bus transportation if they have hazardous walking conditions.  Also, bus stops are spaced at least two-tenths of one mile apart unless deemed hazardous by the District transportation staff. In either of these situations, District staff will determine safe points for bus stops.
  • Students living less than three-tenths of one mile from a main road must meet the bus at an established safe point.
  • Students should arrive at their bus stop ten minutes early. Be ready to board the bus to avoid delays or missing the bus altogether.

If you have questions or concerns about the bus route, pick-up time, or other safety issues call the Transportation Supervisor in your local attendance area.
